At Avalon Hills, we know that recovery is not just about getting better — it’s about staying well. Our mission has always been to help clients build lasting healing, emotional resilience, and freedom from their eating disorders. Now, new data from our outcomes research confirms that our approach is making a real difference.

Strong Results at One Year Post-Discharge

Avalon Hills staff, in partnership with the Department of Psychology at Utah State University, have been working hard on our latest peer-reviewed research publication. This study examines treatment outcomes one year after discharge, including rates of eating disorder severity, depression, and anxiety.

And the results speak for themselves:

📊 At one year post-discharge, 72% of clients did not require readmission to residential or hospital-level care.
Only 28% required a visit to the hospital, residential, or both.

In other words, the majority of our clients continue to thrive after leaving Avalon Hills — sustaining the progress they made during treatment and continuing their journey toward full recovery.

Why These Results Matter

Eating disorder recovery is complex and deeply personal. Sustained wellness requires not only evidence-based treatment, but also compassion, individualized care, and strong aftercare support. At Avalon Hills, our team focuses on treating the whole person — mind, body, and spirit — so clients have the tools they need long after discharge.

Our comprehensive model includes:

  • Individualized treatment plans rooted in psychological, nutritional, and medical support.
  • Trauma-informed care to address underlying issues that contribute to disordered eating.
  • Family involvement and education, helping loved ones become part of the recovery process.

Research That Reinforces Hope

Our collaboration with Utah State University’s Department of Psychology ensures that Avalon Hills remains at the forefront of eating disorder research. By continually measuring outcomes and analyzing data, we’re able to refine our program and offer even more effective, sustainable treatment options for those seeking recovery.

Spoiler alert: people are getting well — and staying well.

A Hopeful Future

Recovery is possible, and these results are proof. To every client, family, and provider who trusts Avalon Hills on the path to healing — thank you. We’re committed to continuing the work, sharing the data, and offering hope that recovery truly can last.
